The "New Bulletin of the Main Botanical Garden" was established by the Tsitsin Main Botanical Garden of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2025, continuing the tradition of the scientific journal "Bulletin of the Main Botanical Garden", which was published from 1948 to 2022. Initially, the journal covered various aspects of the establishment of the Main Botanical Garden of the USSR Academy of Sciences (founded in 1945), as well as its research, organizational, and educational activities. Following the creation of the Council of Botanical Gardens in 1952, the journal became the primary publication for botanical gardens across the USSR and, later, the CIS countries. It also featured articles by staff from botanical institutes, universities, and agricultural and pedagogical institutions, as well as experimental stations.
The journal published works by leading Russian botanists who contributed to the theory and practice of plant introduction and acclimatization. It included research on biodiversity conservation, plant morphology, anatomy, cytology, physiology, and biochemistry, along with the results of applied studies on cultivation techniques, breeding, and the protection of introduced species.
The new journal, reviving the mission and traditions of the Bulletin of the Main Botanical Garden, is adapting to modern standards. As an open-access online publication, it offers significant advantages over the print version, including unlimited opportunities for the dissemination of information.
